A young mother from Indagen in Kabwum District of Morobe fought for her life on Thursday ( 13 Novenber) morning after suffering a severe postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), following the delivery of her baby being already dead.

The 24-year-old mother delivered at 6:00am of Thursday at Indagen Health Centre, but soon after developed continuous internal and external bleeding, which is described to be PPH. The midwife stabilized her however, bleeding continued afterward.
At 3:13pm on Thurday, her condition remained extremely fragile as she was diagnosed with PPH by health worker on site that followed with an urgent approved medevac call.
Poor weather on Thursday afternoon (13 November) forced medevac to be postponed to Friday (14 November) morning. A weather update at 6:00am confirmed conditions were safe enough for the medevac.
In a critical and heroic response, the German helicopter DOKTABOI landed at the Katim Tasol Indagen Clinic to rescue the mother. The pilot made the life-saving decision to shut down the aircraft and wait for the first bag of blood transfusion to run before attempting the dangerous climb from 5,000 ft to 10,000 ft over the Sarawaket ranges en route to Lae.

This careful delay was necessary to stabilise the mother's condition, giving her the best chance of surviving the high-altitude transfer.
As the medical team prepared the mother for evacuation, local villagers gathered at the clinic, offering garden vegetables to the crew as a heartfelt gesture of appreciation towards MAMA Foundation and Manolos Aviation for their continuous lifesaving support to remote communities.

The mother was successfully transferred to Lae's ANGAU Memorial Hospital for urgent and further support.
