MAMA Foundation Responds to Medevac Request for childbirth complications in Remote Menyamya Morobe Province | 10 November 2025


An urgent medical evacuation request was received yesterday for a mother who gave birth 6:30am yesterday from Awaya Village, located deep in the mountains of Menyamya District in Morobe Province.

The call for assistance came from community, with on-ground details provided by local resident Hendry Ivan. The patient, had delivered a baby girl at 6:30am the previous morning.  While the newborn is reported to be healthy and well, the mother experienced complications following childbirth.


According to the initial village assessment, the mother was described as weak and dizzy.


The nearest health facility is located a full day’s walk away at Menyamya Station, community members sought urgent help through the MAMA Foundation and Manolos Aviation network.


The medevac pickup site, located on a small mountain landing area in Awaya Village, was reported to have clear weather with light white clouds over the mountain top at the time of the call.


The patient was successfully airlifted and brought to Lae’s ANGAU Memorial Hospital.


The MAMA Foundation and Manolos Aviation continue to work closely with local communities and health authorities to respond swiftly to such emergencies, ensuring mothers and newborns in Papua New Guinea’s most remote areas receive timely and lifesaving medical care.
