Medevac Responds to 30-Year-Old Pregnant Mother in Remote Angkendang Village, Nawaeb District | 5 November 2025

A 30-year-old expectant mother was evacuated on Wednesday afternoon from Angkendang Village in Ward 5, Nawaeb District, after developing severe abdominal pain, weakness, and shortness of breath.

The request was made following reports from Danny Ties, a village aide, describing that the mother, who is six (6) months pregnant, has been experiencing persistent abdominal pain accompanied by dizziness and loss of appetite for four days. She had no movement of her baby since Tuesday night, raising urgent concerns for both the mother and her unborn child.

Situated on a steep mountain ridge, Angkendang Village is among the most isolated communities in Nawaeb District. There are no health workers in the area, and the nearest health facility, Boana Health Center, requires a full day walk, and the case requires immediate medical evacuation.

Dokta Boi helicopter was deployed under fine weather conditions, with clear blue skies across the Nawaeb ranges

The patient was safely retrieved from the Angkendang village one of the few flat spaces in the village and flown directly to Lae for emergency medical assessment and treatment.

The mother was safely handed over to medical staff in Lae’ ANGAU Memorial Hospital and is now receiving urgent treatment.
