The medevac request was raised after 27-year-old experienced a dangerous prolonged labour that began on Friday, 28 November 2025.

According to the village assessment, the mother’s membranes ruptured on Sunday, and her last fetal movement was felt at 6pm, raising fears of a possible fetal demise (FDIU). She has since become weak and cold, with no contractions. The case has been categorized as an emergency Obstetrics, indicating immediate danger to the mother’s life.

With no nearby health facility, the nearest aid post at Sapmanga would take one and a half days of walking, while Bungawat Health Centre is another 24 hours away, leaving the patient stranded without access to emergency care.

A medevac pickup was arranged at the Dungket village field, with weather reported as clear and favourable over the mountain ranges for medevac.

Stories like this continue to highlight the immense health challenges faced by rural communities in Papua New Guinea, where distance, terrain, and limited resources frequently stand between families and lifesaving medical support.
